Meet the Team

the team

Amanda and Berry
Although you will read below a little about our particular specialisms for teaching and saddle fitting, first and foremost our priority is the running of the yard.  We are so lucky to have such an amazing team who work closely together for the good of the horses, and who share our ethos and passion.

We also have amazing owners who, irrespective of what they do with their horses, through the interest and support that they show for each other make all of us feel like part of one big family.  Although it's been over 25 years now, we are still as dedicated and as enthusiastic as we were when we first set out at Quendon Hall with Berry's horse, Spook, all those years ago and began our incredible journey.

Amanda Gover BHS IT
I was lucky enough to ride as a child and take part in all Pony Club activities, developing a broad base of experience and going on to represent my branch in dressage and one--day events.  I always enjoyed drawing on my gathering knowledge to help friends with their horses’ training which led me to study and become qualified to teach.  Training horses and riders still fascinates me and I find nothing more rewarding than to see the partnership between a horse and rider develop and achieve success when put to the test in public.

I have spent many years training with iconic teachers like Stephen Clarke, Arthur Kottas and Charles de Kunffy.  It has given me a deep and thorough understanding of the Classical principles and enabled me to help both horses and riders become “happy athletes”.  My goal is to help the rider understand the theory as well as the practice to better equip them on their training journey.  Whether it’s a four year old or a veteran, my aim is to make the session enjoyable and fun as we all learn new things more readily when we are relaxed and happy.

Berry Sharp Society of Master Saddlers RegQSF
I have been saddle fitting for nearly 20 years now – nine of which for Martin Wilkinson Saddlers – and have learned so much from all the horses and riders I’ve met on my travels.  Latterly I have worked for myself which has enabled me to offer the time and support to my customers I believe is necessary.  It’s a passion, not a job.  Horses can’t tell us when they are uncomfortable and I get such enormous satisfaction from helping them and their riders be as happy as possible in their work.

Lesley Piggott Yard Manager
Lesley has worked with us for over 15 years now and knows everything there is to know about the day to day management of our yard.  She has worked with horses for many years and her background with youngsters has proved invaluable.  There have been many set on the “right road” through her understanding, patience and consistent handling.  Her ability to assess and satisfy the individual needs of each horse makes for a calm and content atmosphere which everyone benefits from.  She has helped with the training of many members of staff too – some of which have gone on to successfully run their own yards and businesses using the principles and standards learned whilst at Hixham Hall.

Sarah Connor Head Girl BHS stage 2 NVQ level 2
Sarah joined us early in 2013 and quickly became a highly valued member of the team.  Her previous experience at a professional dressage yard, her complete dedication to each horse’s individual care, her reliability and her sense of humour make us count our lucky stars every day!

Emma Boggis BHS stage 2 and NVQ level 2                                                                                                                                                           Emma joined us in March 2014 from Netherwylde Equestrian in Radlett where she had been for four years.  We had been looking for some time for the “right” person and we could not have been luckier than when Emma applied for the job.  She brings a huge amount of experience from a yard with similar high standards to our own.  Emma left in mid-2018 to have her first baby and will be back with us in the Spring of 2019.

Karris Simmons BSc(Hons)                                                                                                                                                                                         Karris gained her qualification in Equine Performance and Business Management at Writtle College before going on to work full time at the College as an Assistant Yard Coordinator.  In her job Karris gained a huge amout of hands-on experience in a very busy daily routine.  Karris joined us in the Autumn of 2018 and the yard has benefited from her incredible attention to detail and enthusiasm.

Chloe Orpin                                                                                                                                                                                                         Chloe joined us in October 2018 having spent a year working on an FEI Dressage yard where the standards were very exacting.  Chloe gained a thorough knowledge of individual and dedicated care for each horse and we are happy to say that all those things learnt are benefitting our horses now.

Rex Amor                                                                                                                                                                                                            Rex’s passion is show jumping.  Having kept his horse with us for many years Rex has now hung up his riding boots but has stayed on the yard as our resident SJ trainer.  His ability to work with horses and riders of every level, tailoring each lesson to their individual needs proves his thorough knowledge and understanding in every case.  He is also happy to travel to competitions and training venues in the area.
